and guest Carol Rector

This was our first time to meet in the Old Mexican Restaurant on 23rd Street in Independence.  Eileen called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.   There were no corrections to the November minutes.  Treasurer Joan Gillis has withdrawn from our club due to her husband’s health issues.  Rose Moody will act as treasurer for now, and accepted several members club dues – which are due and payable now for the new year.

Eileen extended a cordial welcome to June and Don Moore (our webmaster) and to Bill DeCoursey and Donna Roland from St. Louis.

The newsletter prepared by Steve Farris was distributed.  JoAnn Strever asked if we were going to change our banking business now that we are no longer meeting at Metcalf Bank; Rose Moody will check out the
transaction fees and report later.

Eileen told us about two new books that have Elvis connections -  “Mesopotamia” by Arthur Nersesian,
a thriller novel; and “Shake, Rattle and Turn that Noise Down” which is directed towards young fans.

Several members attended the Elvis Bashes held on Friday and Saturday nights at the Voodoo in
Harrah’s Casino, and at Knuckleheads and enjoyed them.

Eileen asked  if we had received Christmas gifts relating to Elvis and there were several good comments shared.

The proposed trip to Ft. Chaffee on March 25th was discussed, but no firm decision was given.  Several
upcoming cruises were mentioned.

Karen told us that E-Bay has the long golden cape (that Elvis never wore because it was too heavy)
for sale for the asking price of $250,000.

Eileen told of meeting a man who was in the army in Germany with Elvis and in fact was his driver -  David Bailey.  He had recently been to Germany and sent Eileen several pictures and even visited with Eileen
and Gary in their Oak Grove home.  David will be a future guest of the club and share stories with us
about Elvis.

Marlene had visited with ETA ERock about being an Honorary Member and he thought that was very
considerate of us, so Eileen presented him with his card at the Voodoo Lounge on January 7th.

Earlene and Nancy spent the weekend in Tupelo and Memphis celebrating Elvis’ birthday and are shown on the Tennessee television WTVA.com.

JoAnn reminded us that ETA Jeff Bergen is at the Sunset Grill on the second Thursday of the month, and at Knuckleheads on the last Friday of the month.

Eileen had received a Christmas card and pictures from Brian Webb who now resides in Fulton, Missouri, and shared those with us.

Eileen spoke about saving labels from canned foods ( Best Choice brand only) and also popup tabs from various liquid drinks that can be turned in for club money.   Karen then told of a money project whereby we could initial a dollar bill, put it in a container, then have one drawn out and that person would receive half of the money with the other half going to the club.  Sharon was the first winner and received eleven dollars.

Shirley told us that the Elvis license plate from the state of Tennessee is now being sold to non-residents.
Contact Shirley for more info if you are interested in buying one.

Rose Moody suggested a raffle at our next meeting and that she would provide an Elvis plate.

Shirley suggested if anyone has some extra Elvis items, that we could also raffle those.  So bring them to our next meeting on February 13th which will be a short one, then we could play Bingo in addition to the Raffle.

It was suggested that anyone wanting to order dinner try to come early to be able to do that before the meeting starts, then the waitress wouldn’t have to deliver the food during the meeting.  Chips, salsa and drinks are
on the tables.

Just a note – the waitress told Eileen that ours was the best group of people that she had worked with.

We adjourned at 6:50 p.m.

REMINDER #1 -   Membership dues of $15.00 are due.

REMINDER #2 -   Our next meeting is February 13th at the Old Mexican Restaurant

June always has her books on Kathy Westmoreland and Elvis
available at the meetings, so if interested, just let her know
