Earlene called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.  She explained about the problems with the August meeting minutes not being on the website until Saturday, 10th

Earlene gave the treasurers report and reported a balance of $570.59.  The 50/50 pot was won by Nancy with the club receiving $7.50.  Some donated items were raffled with the club receiving $16.00.

Shirley reported on the medical condition of her daughter Canyon Murray and cards were signed by the members to be given to Canyon with our very best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery. Canyon will be having surgery on October 13.

The upcoming Blue Springs festival parade, September 17th, was discussed.  Vivian will provide the trailer and chairs.  Members are urged to wear their fan club shirts.  ETA E-Rock will ride on the float with us.

Karen Raymer will not be participating in the October 13 walk in Kansas City but members are urged to volunteer to participate by registering the walkers, or handing out information or water along the route, and food at the completion.  There will be a walk on October 1 which will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and volunteers would be appreciated for this event which will be at the Legends.

Eileen reported that the “Honky Tonk Angels” show at the American Heartland Theatre was enjoyed by 20 members, and that there will be another show coming up soon based on the Hank Williams Story.

Rosa reported on Bobby Simkins show at Edgerton and it was shortened because of rain.  Also, Bobby will have a Christmas show on Saturday, December 3rd in Independence, as well as several more listed at UPCOMING EVENTS
AND SHOWS
.

Earlene told about Bill Cherry’s benefit show for the Backstoppers in Belleville, Illinois, that she, Nancy and Marlene attended on Saturday evening.   In addition to Bill, Ted Torres, Rick Lenzi, Lance Lapinski and the EAS band were wonderful performers during the 4 hour show.   She said that Bill will have a show on October 1 in Edwardsville, Illinois with Victor Trevino, Jr. also performing.

Steve reminded us that the newsletter will be coming out soon and would appreciate our participating by sending him articles.

Eileen introduced Sandy Wright who gave a very interesting talk on her participation in the Honor Guard at the candlelight vigil ceremony at Graceland on August 15th.  The vigil starts at 9:00 p.m. and is a very solemn time of remembrance and a beautiful tribute to Elvis.  This was begun on October 16, 1977 by a fan club from Austin, Texas and continues to this day.  Sandy said that as the Honor Guard made their walk up to the Meditation Garden and rounded the slight curve she saw our beautiful wreath right in front of her.  The candles are lit by a torch from the Eternal Flame at Elvis’ grave.  This was Sandy’s first time to attend Elvis Week and she was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the ceremony.  (Sandy is a daughter of Marlene.)

Next meeting will be October 9th

We dismissed at 6:25.

Marlene Fleeman, Secretary
