HISTORY OF RECORDED MUSIC On July 13, 1999 RCA/BMG presented the Elvis Presley estate with more that 40 plaques bearing new sales certifications and upgrades. Gold is awarded for album sales of 500,000 copies, platinum for a million, and multi-platinum 2 million and more. Album tallies for Elvis now stand at 80 gold, 43 platinum and 19 multi--platinum. Elvis continues as the most-certified artist in the history of recorded music with the most gold and platinum albums, gold, platinum and multi--platinum singles. He is second only to the Beatles in multi--platinum albums by one. RCA released a another great new CD collection for us on the same day.
